Millions Knives is Vash's
evil twin brother and is the real hidden threat on the desert
planet, Gunsmoke. It was Knives, not Vash, who was responsible
for "The Great Fall." He believes that humanity is a plague
that must be exterminated because they survive by consuming
the plants and all the planets natural resources.
Brilliant Dynamites
Neon is the leader of a large gang of armed bandits known as
the Bad Lads. He's an enormous man, bulging with muscles and
wearing clothing decked out with neon lights covering almost
every inch of his body. He encounters Vash while raiding a sandsteamer
Vash happened to be traveling on, and after the ensuing chaos
the two decide to have a duel, to determine the fate of the
sandsteamer. After a brief exchange of gunfire, both of them
walk away damaged from the duel, though Vash escaped with no
wounds inflicted by Neon, but by a member of the Badlads that
had shot Vash earlier in the episode when he hesitated to shoot
to kill. The wound had opened up during the duel, and had resulted
in the draw.
Legato Bluesummers loves death, and devotes his life to making Vash the Stampede experience eternal pain and suffering. He also wears a coat, making him synonnymous with the japanese color of death, white. He is a modified human and the leader of the Gung-Ho Guns. He was recruited by Millions Knives after the July incident to make Vash's life a living hell. His strong resonance with Vash actually stems from the fact that Vash's left arm is grafted onto him. Legato possesses psychic powers that can force his victims to do anything he wishes through telepathic control. Legato forces Vash to kill him by using his powers to threaten Milly and Meryl. Legato thus becomes the first person that Vash ever consciously and willfully killed, fulfilling his promise to "make Vash the Stampede suffer eternal pain".
